About Salita

Salita! Filipino School is a learning institution dedicated to enriching the lives of the Filipino-American youth in our community by offering courses that teach the Filipino language, its heritage, and culture.

Established in 2012, founders and directors, Lauren Reyes and Nico Arce were inspired to share their love of culture and the Filipino language to American families.

As an American born Filipino, Lauren grew up striving to learn more about her cultural identity, participating in Filipino clubs and cultural dancing throughout her high school career, and speaking Filipino at home.  Nico spent most of his childhood growing up in Manila and moved to the U.S. to finish high school.  Exposed to two very different cultures, Nico and Lauren grew increasingly aware of the cultural disconnect that existed between the Philippine and American lifestyles.

The founders believe an increased understanding of the Philippine culture will help the American youth to integrate their Filipino identity with that of their own, limiting the cultural gap.

Salita! Filipino School aims to inspire the Fil-Am youth to connect with their Philippine heritage through language and cultural education. Through creative learning, and hands-on education by our experienced instructors, Salita! instills traditional core family values and cultural enrichment in a fun, family friendly environment.

This video, presented by ABS-CBN of the Philippines, provides a great example of the cultural divide that Salita! aspires to address.
